[GemStone-Smalltalk] Linux CPU Requirements for GemStone v3.7

Hello GemStone Users,

We wanted to let you know that our upcoming 3.7 release will require 
certain CPU capabilities to run GemStone on Linux x86_64 hardware.

Those CPU capabilities are:

  * aes
  * avx
  * mmx
  * pclmul


These CPU requirements only apply to Linux x86_64.

Intel Haswell (2011) and newer processors and AMD Bulldozer (2011) and 
newer processors should have these capabilities.
All of these features have been around for more than 10 years and 
chances are your Linux hardware already has these capabilities.

The reason for this requirement is to make more registers available to 
the C/C++ compiler, resulting in faster performance.

Please contact me directly if you have concerns or require running 
GemStone on hardware that does not support the above features.
