We’re deploying everything from a server in our control. Doing that is crucial to have reliable software deployment, imho. There’s documented ways of replicating source code locally and installing everything from there (Metacello API). Now, the GsDevKit_home setup process is not intended for that, but I also do not consider that project to be a deployment infrastructure.

Well... have you looked at the replacement project for GsDevKit_home: https://github.com/GsDevKit/GsDevKit_stones ?
This is what Dale is trying to tell you… it *is* there. I’m using it for the development of Seaside (the GemStone part at least).
