there is not always so much time to find the exact reason, what went wrong ... especially if its the production server with limited resources (so testing the update process has to be done on a different 18.04 system to make the update process less riscfull).

So, yes the git repositories have been updated (via updateGsDevKit) before ! And "creating a database" means: "createStone gs365 3.6.5". The original checkout on that server was around 2018 - and perhaps has never been updated since then.

Ok, the problems went away, after I removed the old checkout totally and started with a complete new checkout of GsDevKit_home.

FWIW, on my LTS 18.04 system I just created a 3.6.5 stone with no errors ...

As a general rule, when you are working with a new version of GemStone, you should make sure that the git repositories are up-to-date using:

If you use this command, it isn't necessary to remove the git projects as they will be updated in place.

I did run updateGsDevKit before doing my createStone and it ran fine, so I have reason to believe that if you do the same that things will load correctly for you ....

The -g flag for createStone, simply copies the extent0.seaside.dbf from $GEMSTONE/bin and starts the stone ... so no code is loaded from the GsDevKit git projects, so it is not surprising that this would work without error ...

I'm not sure what commands you executed to "create a database", but a little more detail is required for me to attempt to help you further ... please include the full output of the command that you ran including any stacks that were displayed.
