I decided - for my situation - to look at GsDevKit_home and remove all stuff from it, which *I* do not need and gives me a state, where I can run a Gemstone application on an Ubuntu machine even though the i386 package does not work any more. So, that I am in a situation to react in case that those i386 problems comes up at customers computers.

So, no building of stones, no update/upgrade process. You always deliver a full template database with all code you need - so a radical reduction of services, but for my runtime needs pretty ok. Only shell scripts and topaz code and independent of rowan, git, monticello, seaside and that stuff. And the topaz code is - i hope - only based on standard GS Smalltalk. I have to cover one 3.5.1 machines and then only >= 3.6.5 machines.

Takes some additional hours to make fixes and to understand all that env. variable setting, but the concept is working. I will publish it at github when its ok
