I come from the other side who likes to write code on the gemstone server,
so im puzzled why people insist on developing gemstone code in a
non-gemstone image. but it seems to work well, as its a popular (and
profitable) choice.

As to getting at customer data?
Just copy the gemstone extent file(s) to your local testing server and run
a local gemstone server. Weather the extents are 10mb, or 600GB... find
room somewhere. Then you are guaranteed to have the correct customer data
to chase down those wierd bugs.
