[Glass] Questions about upgrading from GemStone 3.6.5 to GemStone 3.7.x

Hi everyone,

We would like to know, what will the best approach to upgrade from GemStone
3.6.5 to GemStone 3.7.x? We are currently running a fairly old set of
Seaside libraries on GemStone 3.6.5 systems. Our Seaside libraries mainly
consist of Zinc, Seaside and Magritte.

We considered splitting the upgrade into two separate steps to reduce the
scope of the change, but we are unsure if this will work.

The first step would be to upgrade binaries to GemStone 3.7.x, running our
existing seaside libraries on it, and the second step is to upgrade the
Seaside libraries.

Firstly, in the development environment, we start with a clean GemStone
extent (no data) on which we run all our tests. Currently on 3.6.5 we use
the seaside extent, and then we load our Seaside libraries on top of that.
When we upgrade to 3.7.x, the code in the seaside extent is already newer,
and we presume the newer Zinc shipped with it will work on that version.

Then, to upgrade production extents, we will run the "upgradeImage" script.
Should we run the "upgradeSeasideImage" script before loading our code,
considering that loading our libraries would effectively "downgrade" the
Seaside libraries again?

Best regards,
